The gear isn’t available from a phone or the newly patched mailbox, which can make honing the rock climbing skill more challenging than necessary. Sims can only buy this gear from a computer, though, so if the gear turns to “poor” or “broken” quality and players don’t have a computer in their vacation lot, they effectively cannot rock climb anymore. Sims have the option of buying Rock Climbing Gear to help them climb the rock walls easier, which is a great choice to have. Rock climbing as an added skill is also very interesting to watch, but has some issues too. It’s incredibly satisfying to see Sims go from inept to expert, especially with their flips and tricks.

Honing the snowboarding and skiing skill starts on the bunny slope, and when Sims are ready, they can attempt the Ludicrous slope at either low, medium, or high intensity. The animations for running around in the snow are impressive too. For those who like to play from starter homes and accumulate wealth traditionally, there are great options in both Senbamachi and Wakaba. Snowy Escape is the first pack to have a lot of content built entirely by popular EA Game Changers, and both the pack and gameplay are better off for it. Wakaba is the final neighborhood and a bit of a disappointment, simply because there isn’t much to do there besides the Festival of Youth. Senbamachi translates to “town of 1000 leaves,” and is the essence of a rustic mountain town, especially with its hiking trails and the Festival of Light. Yukimatsu is the snow-covered area home to the Onsen Bathhouse, extravagant rental lots, slopes for skiing or snowboarding, and snowy hiking trails-complete with places to hone Sims’ newfound rock climbing skills. Komorebi is absolutely stunning, with three different neighborhoods each focused on a different part of mountain life.
